The job of Oregon’s offensive line is to protect the Ducks’ playmakers - guys like Darron Thomas and La Michael James.

Mark Asper took it a step further than that.

At the traditional Lawry’s Beef Bowl Wednesday night - a Rose Bowl tradition in which the opposing teams compete in an eating contest at Lawry’s the Prime Rib in Beverly Hills, Asper was enjoying his dinner with his teammates (it was Oregon’s night at Lawry’s).

Then, according to a reporter, who was at the restaurant, a man at the restaurant began choking on his food. After an unsuccessful attempt by the man’s son to perform the Heimlich Maneuver, Asper went over to assist. Channeling his inner Eagle Scout, Asper was able to save Paul Diamond.

Asper said later that he was afraid he was going to break the man`s ribs.
